This weekend, May 22-23, Bishop Earl Boyea’s dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days expires across the Diocese of Lansing. Obviously, those who have serious reasons (medical, caregiver, etc.) for not being in church, they can choose not to, there is no problem.

To encourage the lay faithful to prayerfully return to Sunday Mass, Bishop Boyea is gifting every family in the Diocese with a blessed candle, representing the Light of the World, Jesus Christ. Each candle is made to burn for 8 hours, or an hour a day for 8 days for the octave of Pentecost. There is also a prayer card that includes a personal message from the Bishop and 8 days of prayer intentions.

Please be sure to pick up your blessed candle and prayer card in the gathering space this weekend after Mass or contact the parish office. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to Mass at St. Francis Xavier: Saturday, May 22 at 5:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 23 at 10:00 a.m.
